launching Spread Pics
a.k.a. professing my undying love for food

during one of several “chill craft nights”— ie, sit around the charcuterie table and chisme nights— i hosted this fall, one of our very dear friends, excited to eat after watching the board be painstakingly assembled for about 30 minutes, stopped us all in our tracks to announce “WAIT, lemme take a spread pic!”
in a room full of very silly, slightly tipsy queers, this went about as well as you could imagine. we all burst out laughing and proclaimed the genius behind labelling a photo of a beautiful snack board, a “Spread Pic”.
i, for one, have not been able to let this idea go.

see, i have approximately the same amount of food pics as i do selfies saved in my phone—upwards of 20,000 total. it’s about time i begin doing what i’ve wanted to do since i was 12 years old. become a ~food blogger~.
i read the book Paris, My Sweet when i was in middle school and LOVED it. it’s a real story of a NYC writer who moved to Paris for work—my absolute dream at the time. i mean, what cunty lil preteen wouldn’t love to move to France and work in fashion and write and eat cupcakes?!

over time though, food and i developed a tense relationship. the difference between my 1-year-old self who could eat an entire lobster in one sitting and my 16-year-old self who self-harmed at the sight of stretch marks is drastic. i spent years trying to make myself smaller and more appetizing despite who i am. i’m happy to say that is all behind me and i celebrate that every day. i am so, so grateful to be able to nourish myself and to spend time with others who enjoy doing so and encourage me as well.

i enjoy food at every opportunity that i can. this is one of the few delights we must indulge in everyday, multiple times a day, wherever we are!
which is why i want to begin the practice of sharing what this looks like. with my Spread Pics posts, i’ll begin sharing about the meals i’ve made, indulged in, shared with loved ones. what began as a way to memorialize the beauty of a good charcuterie board will —i hope— develop into a loving practice of sharing a good meal with you all <3

i am proud of the place food has in my life now. i find such beauty in a cozy plate, a simple treat, a drink shared with friends and family, or even a meal eaten in solitude. i must share all of my Spread Pics with the world!
as i continue the practice of nourishing myself and others, i hope you too can find the abundance well-cooked plate.
con mucho amor,
isabetta
